Adjusting the View

Commands on the View menu allow you to modify the appearance of the layout and the screen:

Fit To Window resizes the layout to fit within the current window frame.  This is a toggle: when the command is checked, then any time you resize the window the layout resizes with it.

Zoom In moves you closer to the layout for a more detailed view; Zoom Out moves further away for a wider view.  Or you can zoom to a specific size using the drop-down at the lower left of the layout window.

Refresh redraws the screen and straightens up any crooked trains.

Background toggles the display of the background image.  With the image off, you can clearly see the track.  Whenever you turn off the background, track display is turned on automatically.

Tracks toggles the display of the track.  Normally track display is off, because the lines in the image serve the same purpose.

Grid toggles the display of the grid.  This is normally not displayed unless you're starting a new layout or experimenting with layout dimensions.

Here is an example with the background turned off, tracks and grid on:

Auto-Follow is a toggle switch: when on, the view automatically scrolls to keep the selected train in sight as it moves.

The Window menu provides toggles for four optional windows:

Control Panel: the power pack for operating trains

Car Collections: galleries of rolling stock you can use on the layout

Clock/Schedule: a drawer-style window showing the scale clock and notices about train movements

Switch Window: drawer-style window showing a closeup of the area around a given switch
