Running trains around is fun, but lacks the sense of purpose you get from working to operate a profitable railroad. The latter requires customers, pick-up and drop-off points, waybills, work orders, schedules, and paperwork.
When you open a layout in TrainPlayer, you get tracks, trains, and scenery, but no plan of operation or schedule to follow. We intend to provide these in future versions, but for now we offer a set of tools for helping you develop your own.
To develop a schedule for operating a layout, you first need to establish (a) where the trains are to make stops, (b) what route to take between them, and (c) how long it takes to get from one to the next. The features described in this chapter -- stations, clock, and schedule window -- work together to help answer these questions.
