This is a new application developed natively on the
Mac using Xcode. The framework is written in Cocoa / Objective
C, while the railroad logic comes in the form of C++ / MFC libraries
shared with the Windows version. The Cocoa development was by Glenn
Howes, of
Generally Helpful Software in Nashua, NH. Glenn actually
enjoys wallowing in the soup of Objective C / NextStep / Quartz /
Carbon / Cocoa that is Mac development.

Requirements: OSX
10.39 or later. Versions 2.0.5 and later support 10.39 as
well as 10.4.
Downloads: downloading of user layouts and
car collections from the TrainPlayer site is not yet available for
the Mac. The files themselves are compatible with the Mac, but
the installers are Windows only. For the time being, you can
get these layout and collections as follows:
-
Download the exe file which comes from a layout
or car collection link.
-
Use an extractor such as
Stuffit to extract the files from the exe. For
layouts, you get two files for each layout (.rrw and .jpg); for
car collections, you get an index file (.xml) and a folder of
jpgs or gifs.
-
Copy the files into the same folders where your
other layouts and car collections are located. These are
by default under
/<username>/Library/Application Support/TrainPlayer/TrackLayer.
-
The new files will show up in the Layouts dialog
or Car Collections dialog next time you run the program.
Note: there is currently a problem downloading car
collections. We are working on an installer.
Documentation: the Mac version of the manual
is not available in Help Viewer, but can be accessed online either
as a web site or a
PDF file. Both
can be accessed via the Help menu in the program.
Bugs: the initial version has known
bugs and deficiencies. A list is included in the readme.
If you find bugs not on the list, please report them by e-mail.
Free upgrades will be available regularly with bug fixes and
enhancements.
Other notes: for release history, known bugs,
and install notes, see the latest
readme (included in the install).
