TrainPlayer/TrackLayer for Mac Readme
Version 2.0.8, 10 Jul 07

Welcome

Thank you for trying TrainPlayer Mac!  We're proud of our fledgling Mac product, and are working to repair defects and add features.  Version 2.0.8 is another step in this direction.

This version is of particular interest to 10.39 users.  You will now find that the Inspector works, printing works, and the jerky train movement is much improved.  In addition (for all users), print scaling problems are fixed, as are many other small bugs.

Upgrades are free but you are not normally notified when they become available.  Check back periodically on the TrainPlayer Mac page for new versions.

Requirements

OSX 10.39, 10.4 or later.  Disk space varies depending on product installed: Deluxe requires 110MB, Standard 25MB.

Installation

TrainPlayer is delivered as a disk image (.dmg) file, both on CD and by web download.  To install: open the image and drag the TrainPlayer folder to the location of your choice (typically Applications).  To run: double-click TrainPlayer.app.

If you are upgrading from an earlier version, delete the following folder before running:

<user>/Library/Application Support/TrainPlayer

Downloads

Downloading of user layouts and car collections from the TrainPlayer site is not yet available for the Mac.  The files themselves are compatible with the Mac, but the installers are Windows only.  For the time being, you can get these layout and collections as follows:

  1. Download the exe file which comes from a layout or car collection link.

  2. Use an extractor such as Stuffit to extract the files from the exe.  For layouts, you get two files for each layout (.rrw and .jpg); for car collections, you get an index file (.xml) and a folder of jpgs or gifs.

  3. Copy the files into the same folders where your other layouts and car collections are located.  These are by default in the TrainPlayer folder you installed.

  4. The new files will show up in the Layouts dialog or Car Collections dialog next time you run the program.  If the layout list does not show up correctly, try clicking Refresh List in the Layouts dialog.

Note: there is currently a problem with car collection downloads.  If you would like to download a car collection, write for information.

Documentation

The Mac version of the manual is not available in Help Viewer, but can be accessed online either as a web site or a PDF file.  Both can be accessed via the Help menu in the program.  The PDF file is included in the TrainPlayer install folder.

Bugs

Every version has known bugs and deficiencies.  A current list is included below.  If you find bugs not on the list, please report them by e-mail.  Free upgrades will be available regularly with bug fixes and enhancements.  Please indicate in any bug report whether you are running on 10.3 or 10.4.
