The Bruno Collection

Over forty huge hubs of real-world railroad action, assembled and tracked by Bruno Pigozzo, plus over three hundred region-specific locomotives and car types.

Bruno Pigozzo is a native of Guelph, Ontario, a devoted fan of Canadian railways, and an expert in the use of TrackLayer.  Once he did an experiment to see if he could draw track on a city map of Windsor, Ontario; this worked out so well he tried it again using a satellite photo, and from that day he's never looked back.

In this amazing collection, Bruno searched all over Canada and the U.S. to find sites of interesting rail activity, stitched together huge digital images of these areas (sometimes requiring as many as eighty individual photos), then added track and trains.  The larger areas come in folders with up to eight separate layout files, linked together so the train automatically moves from one to the next.

Operating one of these layouts is a completely different experience from running a train around a 4x8 table.  You're looking at real buildings and train yards, including recognizable landmarks -- it doesn't take much imagination to feel like you're driving a real train through the outskirts of Chicago, or Anchorage, or Sacramento.  Some layouts include long transition sections, so you cruise through real countryside on your way from one yard to the next.

No serious armchair railroader should let this experience go untried.

The Layouts

Bruno went to a lot of trouble with these layouts.  Most come with interesting background and operational comments.  Some are color-coded to differentiate the various rail lines.  In some areas, labels were added to identify interesting industries or landmarks.

The layout list is in two parts: single-file layouts at the top, multi-file sets below.  Each set comes in its own folder containing the number of files shown under Parts.

The Cars

Operating real-world layouts requires appropriate rolling stock, so Bruno has assembled a huge collection of modern cars to accompany his layouts.  This includes freight, passenger, and diesel types, with generous helpings of Canadian and European styles.  Plus a few cars for fans of Thomas the Tank Engine.
