At TrainPlayer, we believe model railroad track plans are under-appreciated works of art, and that they don't belong between covers of books. The TrainPlayer Screen Saver is our latest attempt to bring them to life, in a way you can admire and explore them without having to do or learn anything. You follow a train as it wanders around different layouts. Every so often the train jumps to some random track in some arbitrary layout chosen from your collection, including any you've built or downloaded. The view follows the train as it moves, and changes periodically to give you different vantage points. Other trains are also moving, switches are thrown randomly, and the route is never the same. Drive while you watch. This is no ordinary screen saver which disappears at the slightest touch! The TrainPlayer Screen Saver is interactive, in an easy, low-key sort of way. Literally! There are a few keyboard commands you can use to control the travel of the train and the pacing of the show. Even the La-Z-Boy crowd will appreciate the ability to touch a key once in a while to throw a switch or nudge the speed. Full details are in the Readme. More info. For more sales-pitch bullet points, see the Screen Saver page: For technical details and complete instructions, see the Readme file: How to Buy The first release of the Screen Saver is for Windows only. This release requires NT or above; Windows 98 and Millenium will be supported soon. If you're a TrainPlayer user. If you already have TrainPlayer software and layouts, add the Screen Saver for $19.95. It comes with ten nice Westcott layouts you might not already have (listed in the Readme). To order, click the Buy button below. If you're not. If you don't have TrainPlayer software, you have two choices: (a) buy just the Screen Saver, with ten layouts (plus others downloadable from the site), or (b) buy one of the Deluxe products, which include TrainPlayer, all 101 Track Plans for Model Railroaders, the Screen Saver, and (in TrackLayer) the tools for building your own. To encourage option (b), at the top right you'll find a coupon worth $15 toward Windows versions of TrainPlayer Deluxe and TrackLayer Deluxe. Fill your screen with railroading at a bargain price.
How to Use Instructions are in the readme, but it's pretty simple -- choose TrainPlayer from the system Display Properties, see a tiny Turtle Creek in the little monitor, click OK, and wait a while.
Once the Screen Saver starts, press H to get a list of keyboard commands as onscreen reference. Or just sit back and enjoy the show. One click takes it all down when the boss walks by.
