Been running an earlier version?

If you have been running 4.x:  you do not need to uninstall.  The new installer will update your existing files without adding new folders.  Start menu items and desktop icons will continue to say "TrainPlayer 4."

If you have 3.3 or earlier:  you do not need to uninstall.  The 4.2 install is separate from the older one, and you can run the two versions side by side.  However, we recommend that you uninstall the earlier version before running the new one -- it will keep your setup cleaner.

Procedure

Click Run and wait for the download to complete. 

If you are using Internet Explorer 9:  there are hoops to jump through, as follows:

1.  Look for this panel at the bottom of your screen:

2.  Click Run.  The download happens, then you might see this:

Setup4.exe is not going to harm your computer, commonly downloaded or not. 

3.  Click Actions to get the SmartScreen Filter dialog (shown at right), then click Run anyway.  If you don't see Run anyway, click More Options.

4.  After the install, you might see the Program Compatibility Assistant (at left).  Do not be alarmed.  Click Cancel.

The next screen is the TrainPlayer Installer.  Click on through.

Questions

Can I try the demo if I had a previous one which expired?

Yes.  The 30-day clock is reset for 4.2 if you ran an earlier demo.  If this doesn't work, write for an extension.

Will this overwrite my current version?

Yes.  Version 4.2 is installed on top of 4.0 or 4.1, and replaces it.

Do I need to uninstall the version I have now before installing 4.2?

Yes, it is recommended, unless you are running 4.0.  See notes at top of page.

Is this going to cost me money?

Probably not.  If you have an existing 4.x license, then there is no cost for 4.2.  If you download and install from the above button, and you have not purchased a license, then you will get a free 30-day demo.  If you have 3.3, then you can download and run 4.2 free, but you will not get Ops, which costs extra.

In any case, start the program and look under Help > Purchase Upgrade to see your upgrade options and prices.

Do I need to pay more if I recently bought the software?

No.  If you purchased after Aug 1, 2011, you are entitled to a free upgrade.  Send e-mail and ask for your license.

Can I get the program on DVD instead of downloading?

Yes.  The way to do this is to choose DVD in the Shipping box on the checkout page when you place your order.  If you already ordered and would like to amend the order to include a DVD, send us e-mail.
