Quick Rooftops in 3.0

Here's a sneaky way to add buildings to your layout.  Put down a short section of track where you want a building.  Add a collection car with an appropriate top.  Set the car label to the building name, adjust the car size to suit.  If the label comes out upside down, use Reverse Train to flip it over.

This will be better in 3.1, which allows you to set the font for car labels.
